VEX High Stakes

For the High Stakes season, I led the design of a compact, high-throughput VEX robot built for fast cycle times and reliable scoring under defensive pressure. The chassis uses a low-profile, rigid frame with an optimized center of mass to stay stable during rapid acceleration and tipping risks near elevated goals. A multi-stage lift and articulated intake system work together to collect, index, and place game elements at multiple heights, while modular mounting points make it easy to iterate on roller geometry and structural bracing as match data accumulates over events.

The robot runs on an autonomous and driver-assist codebase tuned through extensive on-field testing to support consistent match performance. Sensor feedback and path-planned routines manage reliable autonomous scoring, while custom control mappings give the drive team precise control for tight alignment and quick handoff cycles under pressure. Across scrimmages and competitions, this robot consistently met our strategic goals—achieving stable autonomous runs, maintaining scoring throughput under defense, and serving as a platform for ongoing mechanical and software iteration that reflects my competitive robotics design process at Rose-Hulman.
